Hardwood flooring is a dream come true

Hardwood flooring adds a touch of sophistication to any room decor. Many wood species are available, and each one has its unique wood grain pattern. While staining the wood can add vibrant color to the room, the trendy no-stain look shows the wood's natural beauty. Town Flooring installs wood floors in Charlottesville, Virginia. You can find a large selection of hardwood flooring and related products in our showroom.

Wood species

Oak is the most popular hardwood flooring option. This wood species is durable and reasonably priced since it is widely available. It comes in a variety of natural shades that range from very light to very dark. Also, it has a dynamic grain pattern that hides minor scratches and dents. Use the Janka Rating Scale to help judge durability when considering other types of wood. This chart provides the hardness rating for many wood species.

Traditional flooring

If you want to take the traditional route, which is particularly desirable for extensive renovations and new construction, choose unfinished solid hardwood boards. Raw wood is nailed to a wood subfloor, and then it is sanded, stained, and sealed. This process takes about two weeks, including one week for acclimation. Boards have a tight fit, and seams are well sealed. The floor has a flush look.

Factory-finished flooring

Prefinished solid hardwood only needs to be nailed to a wood subfloor. All finishing treatments are applied in the factory. Factories use more robust finishes than on-site installers. Therefore, prefinished hardwood usually has an extended finish warranty than unfinished hardwood. A wood floor that is constructed with prefinished boards has a beveled look. Both types of solid wood flooring and engineered wood can be refinished when it becomes worn.

Man-made flooring

Engineered wood flooring is also finished in the factory. The flooring has a plywood base and a surface layer of hardwood. The plywood is placed in different directions, and because of this makeup, the flooring can resist moisture. Engineered wood is installed as a floating floor that needs no attachment to the subfloor. This man-made flooring is ideal for bathrooms, basements, and other spaces where moisture can be expected.
